52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks

What is 52 ancestors in 52 weeks you may ask.

Well I am still figuring it out also so you will have to bear with me.
Well actually I bealieve I know what it is, so let me do a quick introduction and my take on it.

I come across a post on facebook that talked about 52 ancestors in 52 weeks and I knew straight away I aanted to give this challenge a go. I have never “blogged” before so what a way to throw myself into the deep end.

52 ancestors in 52 weeks is the brain child of Amy Johnson Crow and is a challenge for those who research their family history to share what they have found during the long process of research through a blog or other communication means each week.
It is an outlet for the family researcher to share what they find with everyone and no one in particular.Lets face it – being the family history researcher or genealogist as some may call it can be pretty lonely at times. I would love all of my family to be as interested as I am in understanding who are ancestors were, where they come from, what they did for a living – but we all know that is not the case.

Doing the family tree is not as easy as it sounds. Sure we can all jump on ancestry and put together a tree but you have to really question, is that really my family. You have to research, obtain certificates, check, double check and triple check again. It is even harder when you have continuous names such as John, Thomas, Mary, Anne with a common last name. You need to follow hints through occupations, locations, newspaper articles and so much more but when you break down that brick wall and tick 10 of the 10 boxes on one family member – it is pure elation and relief.

I have found out some amazing information about our family over the many years I have been researching. Things like find family members that were bushrangers, vignerons, convicts, convicts who sued the colony government and main town settlers who have their names in footpaths as well as reading wills from the 1900’s of husbands that were so un-expectantly emotional as well sad stories of deaths.

Each week we are provided a topic to write about – now that will be interesting and it will mean planning and commitment. I live in a crazy corporate fast world with a family that keeps me busy, but this is something that I love doing – it is my outlet to the mundane, it is for me and you (if anyone actually reads it) so I am going to give it a shot

In addition and so as not to waste the blog I will also start putting together stories of my family outside of the 52 ancestors in 52 weeks challenge as I go along.

So excuse the no doubt grammar and spelling mistakes that you may or may not see. Sit back, grab a coffee, wine or beer and enjoy !
